It is "nice" in the sense that it regurgitates conventional wisdom, splatters some semi-relevant information, and calls it an article. The Wikipedia article on Guild Wars is more informative and educational.

I've been waiting for an insightful retrospective on Guild Wars in the mainstream gaming press, but nothing has materialized so far. It is a damn shame; GW1 deserves a good eulogy, for it came so close at times to that MMORPG ideal.

Are you suggesting that Anet paid them to do this? Or was i not the only one to notice the advertisement banner above for every other big name MMO?

Oh, and i stopped reading after the first paragraph. He already got it wrong.

Yes, release a few articles... build back a little interest in the game... add a page for the sequel > http://www.guildwars.com/products/guildwars2/ and soon after... start releasing info about the sequel.

I think the other MMOs' advert on the page was more convincing. It had flashy colours and less BS.

It was NEVER easy to find human groups for ANYTHING from day one.Exept maybe during week ends.

Heroes ftw. And if you have some rudimentary social skills, perhaps find a guild. Put the guild in front of the wars again.

That's when I stopped reading. I was tempted to during "It's never too late to start Guild Wars!"

Strange. I have no problem finding groups, not counting when I group with my guild, when I feel the need for them. And most of them are actually decent groups. Then again, I use Party Search, don't spam any LFG message I might use, use vaguely decent grammar and spelling when speaking in Local, don't hurl insults, etc.... Seems to attact the saner, more mature players with decent builds that work well enough (though likely not by the standards of this forum's regulars) and a rudimentary grasp of strategy (eg, not Leeroying, pulling groups apart, targetting monks. That sort of thing).

I sometimes end up in bad groups (such as the ass who, when we went Across the Wall on the rescue mission, ran ahead and aggroed the Charr up by Ben Wolfson, then mapped out after calling me a loser - and after taking my 50gp as the standard gate monkey fee when we got there. Fortunately, a guildie with a Pre character was online soon after that), but nowhere near as often as I'd've expected from reading here.

And enjoy the solitude of emptiness in the majority of outposts and towns. GW turned into the reason I left Everquest there just wasn't anyone to play with in the origional zones and areas.

The one reason, and more than anything the only reason, I played Guild Wars was that it had no added monthly fees. That's it... and because of that reason, there's a strong chance I will not stop playing the first Guild Wars as long as they keep servers open for it.

In my opinion, that article made Guild Wars look bad.

"Also, the game being free-to-play has inspired many people to make that initial leap into the MMO world, possibly even opening their eyes to a subscription-based game eventually."

GW is for noobs to learn WoW?

Minority of outposts, you mean. And most of those are either when you've been sent to a newly created District of a popular town (Ascalon, LA, Kamaden, etc.) or in areas you generally miss if you're going from mission-to-mission (such as Grendich Courthouse - unless you know about it, odds are that you'll never see it unless you stumble across it while going for Althea's Ashes. Or the Ice Tooth Cave).

Of course, time of day and time zone factors into it - even LA's relatively dead at 6am Eastern.

Had absolutely no problem finishing all campaigns including NF with full human groups.

Of course, I never tried to get into one with mesmer, sin or rit. But for everything else, it was no problem.

But saying that it was NEVER easy is simply wrong.
